Across the Blue A Novel edition by Carrie Turansky Religion Spirituality eBooks
I love historical fiction that is not only well researched, but is vivd with details that make me see, feel & hear with the characters. This story takes place in the early days of powered flight, when the Wright Brothers' success has fueled the imaginations of inventors around the world. James and his foster father are determined to be the first. Winning this contest would propel them to the top of the aviation world in terms of fame. The money attached to winning would be a huge boost, also.Bella is the daughter of a wealthy newspaper owner father and a socialite mother. Their dreams for their daughter includes marriage to a wealthy land owner. That's not, however, Bella's dream. James is the foster son of a aviation frontiersman. He has little knowledge of his parentage. Even though he's attracted to Bella, there would be little hope of getting her parents' permission to court her.
All of these factors come together in this story, making it a captivating read from beginning to end. The spiritual insights gained by James, in particular, add much to the story.

Across the Blue A Novel edition by Carrie Turansky Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Across the Blue is a delightful romance that includes Downton-Abbey-like touches of wealth and privilege mixed with impossible love. I fell head over heels for this swoony hero who embodies some of my favorite qualities courage, ambition, and sacrificial devotion to those he loves. And with early aviation thrown in? Be still my heart! Turansky's research is impeccable.
How wonderful to be up in the blue, experiencing the thrill the early flight! Really fine research into the birth of flight in the early 20th century. Wonderful, gentle, romance. Strong and intelligent characters facing the challenges of social status, family pressures, and the ripples of poor choices as they impact on their hopes and dreams. And oh, how I love a satisfying epilogue; but wait...don't miss one word. Enjoy every moment as James and Bella pursue those dreams.
As someone else wrote, I, too, am relatively new to historical fiction/romance, and am finding it as rewarding and stimulating as any other genre of writing. About one-third through the book, I could hardly put it down, caring so much about the characters (and their development), wanting the best for them, and also wanting to get to the bottom of the mystery within the story. I so enjoy learning about events in history woven in and through a story that fills in the emotions and lives of the people involved. Recently someone said to me that they "only read non-fiction" and with that slight tone of superiority. I didn't say anything back to them (because it wasn't the time or place to get into such a discussion), but I immediately had an entire conversation with the person inside my head, besides feeling extremely sorry for them. My life has been incredibly enriched by books like ACROSS THE BLUE and by the authors themselves. They (Christian writers) are an extra special class of people, who themselves enrich your life, if you take the time to get to know them (by following on social media).
Very well written, turn of the century story encompassing early flight; familial ties; romance, and the place of women in society.
Isabella Grayson likes to write. Her father owns numerous newspapers in Great Britain including The Daily Mail. For Isabella to write for the paper would be a dream come true; for her parents, not so much. Women of society must not lower themselves to writing for a newspaper. How common! And surely all hopes for a suitable marriage would be lost.
Yet, determined to be published, and equally determined to push England to the forefront of flight, Isabella anonymously pens a letter to the editor of The Daily Mail. It is published! Mr. Grayson who is avidly interested in aviation is thrilled with the well written letter, at least until his daughter informs him she is the one who wrote it.
James Drake is an aspiring aviator. He is in need of a sponsor for funds to get his plane ready for the great flight over the Channel. Flying over the Channel first comes with a nice prize package, one Drake needs to continue to perfect his airplanes.
When he crashes in a field on the Grayson estates, Isabella and James meet becoming friends with similar a similar goal get Great Britain on the aviation map.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end! This book is during the time period when aviation was just taking off (no pun intended). Isabella Grayson 's father owns several English newspapers and she longs to be a journalist. James Drake is an up and coming airplane designer and pilot. There are so many twists and turns in this book regarding both Isabella and James....I couldn't stop reading as I had to find out how it all works out! Isabella is wealthy and her parents want her to marry a wealthy man....James, on the other hand, has a past that most likely will not fit into Isabella's family's dreams for her. But will love prevail? Will James find out something from his past that actually puts him in better standing with the Grayson's? You must read this book to find out!!
What a delightful story! Carrie Turansky writes an engaging story, complete with romance, mystery, and the brave aviators at the time when aviation was being developed. The reader is swept back to the early 1900's to the beautiful English countryside, and the Cliffs of Dover. The wealthy newspaper Grayson family, especially their daughter Bella are at the forefront of the coverage of early aviation trials and successes. James Drake, the young aviator, who unknowingly crashes his flying machine on the Grayson's country estate, is desperate to be the first to fly across the English Channel. Carrie Turansky has done her research, seamlessly making the reader feel like they can step right into that place and time. I loved the integrity of the main characters in their quest for their goals, which included prayer and trust in the Lord. Doing the right thing isn't always easy, but they are blessed because of it. I really enjoyed this delightful historical fiction adventure.
