I chose this book because I have a real interest in medicine. It's obvious that the author has done his homework. What a fascinating tale he has woven! From the first page to the last there is never a dull moment as the doctor becomes more and more immersed in his web of lies. Will he get away with everything? Should he?

Very different twists in the plot. It was impossible to guess the ending. English atmosphere also was interesting to me
Excellent. Should be compulsory reading for junior doctors.
Did not finish book. Too violent.
Shades of "Catch Me If You Can", but interesting enough. A true sociopath, not even the least bit sympathetic. Not a total waste of time, I guess, I finished it to find out how it ends, and I'm glad I did.
I read this through wondering how it could be possibly resolved. It was somewhat strange in that various aspects did not seem to be quite plausible, and yet on consideration, perhaps they were plausible. At any rate the book was pretty well written and edited, and that in itself is a plus in my book.
Very good read. I even found myself hoping fake Dr. Hennessey would succeed in his impersonation of a real medical doctor at times. But when his character became obvious to me, I was horrified by the thought that an untrained and uneducated person could fool so many people who had been trained and educated extensively in the same field he was trying to enter wholly unprepared.
The plot of this novel is made clear within the first few pages. A hospital orderly in a London hospital decides that he would quite like to be a doctor. He believes that despite no training whatsoever, his clinical skills are up to the task. When one of the hospitals young resident doctors dies in a motorcycle accident, and he is asked to clean out the resident's hospital room, he discovers an invitation to interview for a job in a hospital in Bristol many miles away from London. It is clear, from the outset that such a situation can only go from bad to worse. It is the handling that makes this story an interesting one. Unfortunately, John Collee's skills as a writer of novels (think Deaver's latest reinvention of the Bond novel) are not quite equal to his skill as a screenwriter (this story, or Master and Commander for example). The film of this novel, which goes by the same name and which I saw prior to reading the book is a classic in the black comedy genre. I would recommend it to anybody. The book, yes, is worth a read, but probably not if you have already seen the film.
